Week Six

I would create a passive library program aimed at teens during October to promote horror books and movies. Using a passive program is great for teens because it doesn’t rely on them being at a program at a certain time, which is helpful because keeping to schedules can be hectic for some busy teens. This type of program will only involve teens that want to participate, so introverted teens will not feel pressured to join.

What my passive program would be is a Halloween/Horror themed scavenger hunt that the teens would start at either the teen reference desk or the front library desk. When they first come into the library they will be informed of the scavenger hunt by a poster at the front of the library. The poster will have the first clue to start the teens hunt. The clues will lead them throughout the young adult collection and themed displays around the library.  East clue will take them too different certain areas of the library, which they will hopefully notice new books or services that will be helpful to them. Also the displays will give the teens information of different types of books or movies that would interest them. These displays will have to be checked regularly in case the teens decide to borrow the items.

  1. This is a nifty idea! Scavenger hunts can be so fun! However, I don't know about teens at your library, but I would definitely have reservations about our hooligans running about the library. We keep them penned in the teen area for a reason!! I really do like this idea, though, and maybe it wouldn't be so bad on a Saturday afternoon. Anything to get them interested and involved in other sources of information.

  2. Great idea! We always have scavenger hunts for kids and I think it would be great to expand that for teens!
